Jesus' awareness of the Christ within, as exemplified by his life of love, wisdom, and victory over death, opened the way of liberation to the captives of false belief. He recognized the nothingness of ignorance and bondage. His so-called miracles were practical demonstrations of the power of good over evil and showed clearly that an understanding of Christ, Truth, is the key to peace and freedom.
Today Christian Science, or the Comforter which Jesus promised would come, is explaining and proving the same spiritual power, the same divine truths, that the Master proved on the shores of Galilee. Thus in this age everyone with ears to hear, eyes to see, and a will to learn, can open the prison gates of fear, ignorance, and sin, which seem to shut him out from "the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free" (Gal. 5:1).
Mary Baker Eddy sounds the freedom call for all men when she writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'" (p. 227): "Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: 'Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!' Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free! This is your divine right."
