THE HEALING MISSION OF CHURCH

From the February 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Church of Christ, Scientist, was formed to restore primitive Christian healing to the world, the healing which is the evidence of God's love for His children. Its teaching is based upon the words and works of the Master, Christ Jesus. His works are the proof of God's Word acting in human affairs. In such loving statements as (John 5:14), "Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee," and (Matt. 9:2, 6), "Thy sins be forgiven thee.... Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house," the Master made it plain that the healing of fleshly ills followed the overcoming of sinful beliefs and habits.

It is significant that Mary Baker Eddy, whose great love for humanity enabled her to behold Church as the spiritual idea of God, saw physical, financial, and moral healing as an activity of the human institution—church—in all ages. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our Leader gives the following definition of "Church" (p. 583):

"The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.
