Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

SOME IMPORTANT REMINDERS

We who are its grateful beneficiaries need prayerfully to remind ourselves from time to time that the now world-wide Christian Science movement began when a devout Christian woman, believed to be fatally injured, opened her Bible at the New Testament and read anew the account of Jesus' healing of a palsied man. Concluding in logical fashion that the eternal power which had healed the man must still be available to all, she reverently prayed for spiritual enlightenment.

TRUE HUMANHOOD

A Christian Science practitioner when asked the question, "What about human good; is it all untrue?" referred to Jesus' words, "There is none good but one, that is, God" ( Matt. 19:17 ).

THE DIVINE NATURALNESS OF THE CHRIST-APPEARING

To the Christian Scientist, good is natural, evil unnatural. This is because he knows that an infinitely good God could have created only that which is good, expressive of His own being.

THE GREAT TEACHER

About two thousand years ago a very humble and very great man traveled up and down the dusty highways and byways of ancient Judah teaching, preaching, and healing the sick. Mighty empires have since risen and fallen; conquerors have come and gone; strange and erudite philosophies have caught the peoples' imagination, held it for a time, and then been discarded; but with imperishable glory Christ Jesus' teachings have shone through the ages and have retained and maintained their authority and power.

IMMANUEL

While uncounted thousands of men and women are finding in Christian Science the satisfying end of their search for the living God, that search goes on for many millions of others who have not yet turned to the simple spiritual facts of their divine birthright as revealed in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It is to establish in their own consciousness more and more evidence of God's presence and, incidentally, to provide assurance of that presence for all who are still groping in the wilderness of materialism that grateful, consecrated Christian Scientists are happily practicing their religion and producing its healing effects in ever-increasing measure today.

GOD CONTROLS MAN AND THE UNIVERSE

" THE real jurisdiction of the world is in Mind, controlling every effect and recognizing all causation as vested in divine Mind. " Thus on page 379 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy indicates where cause, effect, and government really originate.

CHURCH, A PATTERN OF ACTION

THE first record of a gathering together in the Bible occurs in the first chapter of Genesis ( verse 9 ): "And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear. " This verse provides a pattern for church action, for when we are gathered together in spiritual agreement, we should expect to see "the dry land appear"—to become aware of the absolute formation of thought needed at the moment.

"THE BOND OF PERFECTNESS"

MUCH thought has been given to the ways of overcoming the divisive beliefs of jealousy, rivalry, criticism, animosity, and fear among men and nations. However, while mankind may seek unity and strength in a pooling of human resources and uniting of human efforts, it is only by gaining a true sense of God and of man as His undivided expression that enduring unity can be demonstrated.

"A WHITE STONE"

THE sacred privilege of overcoming is individual, not vicarious. This is conveyed by the admonition and assurance found in the book of Revelation ( 2: 17 ), "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

WILLING AND OBEDIENT

Christian Scientists have before them the privilege of acknowledging God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience in every event of their lives. "If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land" ( Isa.
