ON the seal of a western university may be read in the Latin form the familiar words of St. Paul, "Whatsoever things are true.

A FAMOUS painter has attempted to portray upon canvas the historic meeting between Jesus and the rich young ruler who came to inquire of the Master, "What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" The artist has painted the scene with rare skill and depicted the forms and faces of the striking characters with an inspired brush; but the incident is greater than the picture, and with all the well displayed genius of the painter and his sympathetic treatment of the great theme, there is much left for the thoughtful observer to supply. It appears from the story that there was that about the young nobleman which at first view kindled Jesus' interest and admiration.

FREEDOM! Liberty! How the races, nations, and individuals strive to gain them! This inscription, "Obedience to law is liberty," on the front of a court-house, is a clear, concise rule for attaining and maintaining liberty, a statement which places liberty clearly as a mental quality. When we recognize the fact so clearly taught by Christian Science, that God is the only Mind and hence the only lawmaker, we can say that obedience to God is liberty, and liberty belongs to all men as a normal state of consciousness.

CYRUS , king of the Persians, fought his way to supremacy two and a half millenniums ago by conquering the Semitic races that had ruled the earth "with a rod of iron. " An historian has spoken of their government, for example in Babylon, as "inconceivably cruel," for the reason, apparently, that they were devoid of the imagination which enables a man to think of himself in another man's place.

IN Science and Health ( p. 453 ) we find this comprehensive statement: "You uncover sin, not in order to injure, but in order to bless the corporeal man; and a right motive has its reward.

EVERY line of thought presented for the consideration of mankind which claims to be scientific, hence demonstrable, must have as its basis a fixed, unchanging law, and it necessarily follows that he who hopes to prove any of the truths claimed in behalf of any particular line must keep his efforts and conclusions absolutely in consonance with what is called its fundamental principle. Christian Science has such a basis.

THAT Christian Science is an efficient method of healing disease can no longer be disputed. The proofs thereof are too evident and too numerous for successful refutation.

Some one has recently said that "the trend of religious thought in our day is in the direction of the substitution of social utility for theological sanction. We ask of the new thing presented to our consideration, not is it in accord with the divine will, but rather is it likely to benefit humanity?" Statements of this nature are becoming more and more frequent today and suggest some grave and interesting questions.
