Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

ABSENT TREATMENTS

Extracts from three letters to Mrs. T.

Suppressing every human motive—a profound self-annihilation before the Being of beings; retaining no will but His, surrendering ourselves to Him with a resignation without limit, a confidence without bounds; having but one only unique inextinguishable desire, that of surmounting every obstacle between ourselves and the light,—this is the way we have to travel to reach our grand aim.

Rev. M. B. G. Eddy's Easter Service

From the Boston Traveller: "The Church of Christ (Scientist) had their meeting Easter Sunday at Hawthorn Rooms, which were crowded one hour before service commenced, and half an hour before the arrival of the pastor, Rev. Mary B.

It is a matter of regret that so few students knew of the intended discussion of Christian Science by the Baptist ministers at their conference of the 27th ult. Rev.

A SQUIRREL STORY

Did you ever know a squirrel? I did, only last summer. We didn't get on well together at first.

"THY WILL BE DONE."

In a state of vision, or wakefulness, I cannot tell which, I saw floating over my head four words: "Thy will be done. " The words first appeared black and heavy, like iron.

"Hold Fast to That Which is Good."

The curse of humanity is the inherent habit of holding fast to traditions. On the other hand, it is unwise to be seduced by every doctrine.

PRACTICAL PROOFS

A correspondent of a certain paper says: "Mind cure" is a difficult subject to grasp, especially for one outside the fraternity of Scientists, for it is wholly unique in its philosophy of health and disease. Its teachings seem on first view to be in many points at variance with the accepted facts of science and the lessons of personal-sense concussions.

FASTING AND PRAYER

We have not in times past understood the true meaning of the words "fasting" and "prayer. " We have almost universally supposed that prayer meant a long petition to a personal God to grant a favor greatly desired, we willingly abstaining from food and other comforts to aid in propitiating the great Being whose blessing we humbly sought.

"KNOW THYSELF."

If thou knowest thyself well, thou art better, and more praiseworthy before God, than if thou didst not know thyself, but didst understand the course of the heavens and of all the planets and stars, also the virtue of all herbs, and the structure and dispositions of all mankind, also the nature of all beasts, and, in such matters, hadst all the skill of all who are in heaven and on earth. — Theologia Germanica.
