Two of the Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, Michael Pabst and Scott Preller, traveled with Michael Seek, Managing Editor of the German Herald, and Luisella Jaques-Deraney, Managing Editor of the French Herald, through Germany, Switzerland, and France to conduct meetings about the future of the Herald. Below, Michael and Scott report on their visit to these churches, which took place last February and March.
I'VE BEEN SURPRISED BY the unexpected possibilities of online services ever since our church began experimenting with them five years ago. At first I thought they would be fairly passive, like listening to a prerecorded Christian Science Bible Lesson over the phone.
AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF of post-graduation to over 30 countries, I returned home to America. With no prospects for work, I began to pray deeply and humbly about my purpose.

WHEN OUR DEAR CHURCH MEMBER and friend, former Christian Science Monitor reporter George Merry, passed on last summer, his sister asked if his memorial service could be held at our church. Our members felt that holding this service was the most natural thing in the world, especially since George had grown up in our church (Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston), had been a member for over 50 years, and as a public figure had many friends in the community.
AFTER FLYING FOR MORE THAN 30 hours (and changing planes three times), my colleague and I arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia. When we started walking down the large, open corridors to immigration and customs, the bright green colors of the trees and the multicolored, exotic flowers caught my attention immediately.
In October and November 2009, the Christian Science Board of Directors visited Christian Science branch churches and Societies in Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. Dilshad Khambatta Eames, an executive assistant for the Christian Science Board of Directors, originally from Pune, India, accompanied them, along with Nancy Price, travel manager for the Board of Directors.

WHEN I WAS appointed to the role of Sunday School Superintendent for my church six years ago, I began to deeply study the origin of Sunday School. Through my research, I discovered that the Protestant Church in England would invite children who worked in workshops to receive a religious education in Sunday School.
