Testimonies of Healing

OVER EIGHT YEARS AGO, an eruptive and inflammatory skin condition developed on my leg. Itchy and unsightly, it made me feel unattractive and it slowed down my active lifestyle.

YEARS AGO, my wife and I returned to California after working overseas. Both of us wanted to continue teaching in public schools, but there was a severe shortage of jobs.

ONE AFTERNOON a few years ago, I fell headlong down a flight of concrete stairs, hitting my head very hard against the cement balustrade. I literally saw stars.

ONE MORNING IN FEBRUARY 2006, while my husband and I were visiting my youngest daughter, I found I was unable to move my legs. Later in the day I lost the use of my hands, and my speech also became slurred.

FOR MANY YEARS, Christian Science has benefited me spiritually, as well as emotionally and physically. Among the many physical healings I've experienced since learning of Christian Science as an adult, are a medically diagnosed liver condition, epilepsy, an abscessed tooth, a leg infection, and a smoking habit.

AROUND 1915, my mother and father read a Christian Science lecture in a local newspaper. Shortly after reading it, my mother, who had been scheduled to have a hysterectomy, no longer needed the surgery.

MY PARENTS BECAME students of Christian Science when I was an infant. Since they relied on Christian Science for all our health needs from that point on, I have no memory of any other type of healing method during my childhood.

I'M LOSING MY MIND , I thought. About five years ago, it became difficult to remember anything.

ONE EVENING in December 2007, I pulled a bubbling chicken casserole out of the oven. As I set the hot dish down on the counter, the boiling gravy splashed and covered my entire forearm and back of my hand.

THROUGH THE CENTURIES , exceptional thinkers such as Rene Descartes and George Berkeley have posited their belief in the unreality of matter, but none so boldly as Mary Baker Eddy when she stated, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" ( Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468 ).
