Testimonies of Healing
I desire to return thanks for a beautiful demonstration of the power of Truth which I had while spending a fortnight's holiday in the island of Jersey. I arrived there from England on Saturday, Aug.
In writing this testimony I recall St. Paul's words, "That God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ;" for I feel that I have indeed been shown "the mystery of Christ" through the understanding of Christian Science.
Paul writes: "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. " When I think of the five years of suffering from a complete physical and nervous breakdown, said to have been caused by an attack of fever,—of the sleepless nights, weary days, constant headaches, intense pain, weakness, and extreme nervousness,—and contrast that condition with my present life of health, peace, and happiness, I do indeed feel that all things have become new for me.
It is with pleasure that I write this testimony to tell of a few of the blessings which have come to me through my understanding of Christian Science. For about four years before I took up its study I was under medical treatment nearly all the time; but it seemed that the longer I doctored the more I suffered.
I send this testimony in loving gratitude for the many helpful messages brought to me in the Journal and Sentinel. About thirteen years ago I was healed of lung trouble when I seemed to have but a short time to live.
It is with a heart overflowing with gratitude that I wish to tell of the healing, through Christian Science, of my little daughter of what is known as infantile paralysis. In August, 1910, she appeared one evening to have a high fever, with a contraction of the muscles of the neck and back.
Recently while cutting a trail in a canyon in the mountains near by, it was necessary to remove a large quantity of what is called "poison oak," which grew in great profusion and to a considerable height. I worked for several hours in removing it, and during the following night I suffered so intensely that I called for help from a Christian Science practitioner over the telephone and was given absent treatment.
I consider it a privilege to send my testimony, and thus to bear witness to what Christian Science has done for me. In 1910 I was taken ill, and after suffering intensely, a consultation was held and my trouble pronounced a malignant growth of large proportions, for which I was under the care of four physicians and was kept under powerful opiates all the time.
It is with a heart full of gratitude that I herewith testify to the rich blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. I had suffered with a severe abdominal complaint for about twenty-three years.
In 1893 Christian Science was brought to my notice. I had been a great sufferer for two years from nervous exhaustion and sleeplessness, and had been attended by physicians of both schools, who gave me the best of their skill.
