We are glad to publish the following interesting letter and enclosures received from our Leader. That legislatures and courts are thus declaring the liberties of Christian Scientists is most gratifying to our people; not because a favor has been extended, but because their inherent rights are recognized in an official and authoritative manner.

"The Christian Scientist," Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health, page 450, "has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death;" a reformatory work of" the broadest possible scope, embracing as it does the alleviation and ultimate cure of all the ills that flesh is heir to,—ethical, pathological, social, economic, and industrial.

Christianity is essentially a practical religion. There never was a man who was less of a visionary than Christ Jesus.

A Leading daily newspaper in one of the cities of the middle West contains an editorial review of a lecture on Christian Science which had just been delivered there, wherein it is said,— "He [the lecturer] did not refer to the fact that death has existed throughout the entire earth in all ages as one of the conditions of evolution, that from it there could be no escape, and that most Christians regard it as the gateway to a higher life; but he talked as if death, physical death, was something that did not belong in the divine order and might be overcome. In this strain the speaker proceeded,.

As I read the Journal and Sentinel , is seems to me that every needful thing is being said, and much better than I can say it. But the duty rests upon each of us to acknowledge God as revealed by Christian Science.

It is clear to the writer that most of the atheistical doubts and half-doubts which darken the minds of many persons, and which impede the true mission of Christianity very largely, and of the existence of which their possessors are very frequently unconscious, receive their sustenance from the false theological teachings that matter and evil are entities, or real existences. Christian Science by its unanswerable logic destroys this affirmative falsehood.

The tendency of present-day material evolutionists is to identify matter with the manifestation of force. This material sense of force is manifestly not a substance-matter, but a manifestation of mortal mind.

That knowledge is power is a statement whose truth is so obvious that it has passed into a proverb. Every detail that marks the difference between savagery and civilization is an illustration and demonstration of the proposition.

Will those beloved students whose growth is taking in the Ten Commandments and scaling the steep ascent of Christ's Sermon in the Mount, accept profound thanks for their swift messages rejoicing over the Twentieth Century Church Manual? Heaps upon heaps of praise confront me, and for what? That of which I said in my heart, it will never be needed; namely, laws of limitation for a Christian Scientist. "Thy ways are not as ours.
