ATHEISM UNDER THE SEARCHLIGHT OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

From the October 1903 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is clear to the writer that most of the atheistical doubts and half-doubts which darken the minds of many persons, and which impede the true mission of Christianity very largely, and of the existence of which their possessors are very frequently unconscious, receive their sustenance from the false theological teachings that matter and evil are entities, or real existences. Christian Science by its unanswerable logic destroys this affirmative falsehood. And when this affirmation of the reality of matter and evil is destroyed, atheism is deprived of its only affirmation and becomes a refuted negation. This will appear as soon as we apprehend and accept the following simple propositions:—

1. A negation, to be true, must be based upon, and provable by, an affirmation which is true.

2. If a negation is based upon a false affirmation, and can be proven only by a false affirmation, it is a false negation.
