Testimonies of Healing

With the sweet, soul-satisfying echoes of the Communion...

From the October 1903 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With the sweet, soul-satisfying echoes of the Communion season still lingering in the corridors of thought, and with a larger perception of the great importance to the world at large of this second appearing to human consciousness of God-with-us through the Christ-truth, I cannot feel satisfied to withhold my grateful acknowledgment through our periodicals, of some of the manifold blessings that have come to me through the reception and understanding of Truth as revealed in Christian Science.

As I look back over the past twenty years, I see a very young mother with two beautiful children, a son and a daughter. The mother, burdened with several chronic organic diseases and under constant medical treatment, left a fond husband and home to seek longed-for health in climate, electricity, massage, and materia medica, but she found it not.

During a temporary sojourn in Kansas, the little girl was taken with an attack of whooping-cough. A physician was instantly summoned, a prescription filled, and a dose given to the little one, who was put to bed. On returning from dinner to see if the child was all right, it was found that she had fallen asleep. Too much opium in the cough syrup and trust to man's knowledge instead of God's wisdom had robbed us of our only daughter. The mental shock, in the mother's weakened condition, resulted in serious illness and despondency.
