When a lad attending school and later in college, I was an enthusiast over athletic exercises of all kinds, particularly base ball and tennis. I spent much time in active participation in these games, and in consequence certain diseases were believed to have been contracted.
The first disease manifested was inflammatory rheumatism in a very severe form. For weeks I lay in bed, hardly able to turn myself over without experiencing a great sense of pain. Until I was healed in Christian Science these periods of suffering would re-appear with nearly every change of the weather, becoming most noticeable in the spring of the year. I tried a great many remedies, and the only one which seemed to bring any relief was the wearing of bandages which were usually saturated with liniment. Finally no relief came from this treatment, and I was at a loss to know what remedy to try next.
After some years of suffering from this disease I became subject to frequent and severe attacks of hemorrhoids, constipation, carbuncles, and boils. Time and time again I was under treatment of the surgeon's knife and medicine for the cure of these diseases, without any permanent relief being given me.
