It is now over four years since I first came to Christian Science for physical healing, and when I look back over these years and see how much I have been benefited, and how greatly my life has been changed since learning of this truth. I cannot find words to express all I feel.
Thinking that perhaps my experience might be helpful to some one who is still under bondage to the same so-called law, I wish to tell of my healing through Christian Science.
I had been suffering with what was pronounced astigmatism, and although the doctor said there was no serious organic trouble, still it was very painful, causing almost constant headaches. I took treatment from one of the best oculists in Kansas City, who prescribed glasses, thinking they would relieve the headache; but they did not seem to be of any help whatever, and instead of my eyes getting better. I could see that they were gradually growing worse, and I was scarcely ever free from a headache. I was employed in an office as bookkeeper, where, to mortal sense, the work was very hard, and this was supposed to have caused the trouble. The doctor told me that I could never expect that my eyes would be entirely cured so long as I continued doing that work; that I needed a long rest as I had been working too hard, but that my eyes would never be strong as they once were. He also told me that I must give up all reading and use my eyes only for my necessary work, resting each evening to prepare for the work of the next day. I honestly tried to follow his directions, although it was a very great trial for me to give up all reading, for I had always been a great reader, even as a child, but I was willing to do anything that would help me, as I did not then feel that I could give up my work for any length of time. I could not read, however, even for a few minutes, without its causing suffering.
