Of Good Report

Present-day examples of “whatsoever things are of good report” (Philippians 4:8)

The healing potential of Sunday School

I have had the privilege of teaching in different Christian Science Sunday Schools over many years. This has shown me how well children respond to consideration, compassion, and love.

A focus on women who won the vote

March is Women’s History Month in the United States, and this year it honors the suffragists, whose valiant efforts gained women the right to vote. Over a span of eighty years these women tirelessly wrote, gave speeches, marched, and even went to prison in support of their cause, which culminated in the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution granting all citizens the same voting rights regardless of gender.

Pray it forward

The woman in front of me at our little local grocery store was buying several bags of a gourmet food item. “That looks good,” I told her.

When I shared Science and Health in another’s language

I like to shop at a Mexican grocery store in a small town near where I live in Wisconsin. It offers fruits and vegetables that I enjoyed while living in Mexico at various times over the years, and speaking Spanish with the employees is fun and keeps me in practice.

Floodwaters dispersed

About three years ago, my parents gave me a call with some very grave news: Their house was about to be flooded. They told me that they were praying diligently and had enlisted the support of a Christian Science practitioner, and that my sister was also praying about this issue.

Running with God

My friend and I enjoy running together and had an opportunity to run a half-marathon. While we had never tried running such a distance and didn’t have a runner’s training plan, the one thing we did have was some understanding of Christian Science.

I have worked in Christian Science Reading Rooms for many years and enjoy the adventure of connecting with all kinds of people. Through my many conversations with those who walk through the door, I’ve learned so much about God’s goodness and love.

The harmony of Christ—on the job

It was my first consulting job, and I’d worked very hard for six months. However, when it came time to present my findings, I was terrified.

Joy from Christ—today and always

I often express pure joy in my life, especially around Christmastime, because I love God, and I love Life. I make it a goal to uplift those around me through my joyfulness.

The following is an edited and abridged transcript of the “An able church—When we feel the Christ-power in church, it extends to embrace the world” session held in The Mother Church Extension, hosted by Dilshad Khambatta Eames, CS, and Ned Eames on June 2, 2019, the Sunday before Annual Meeting. It was also broadcast live online, and you can watch the complete replay at christianscience.
