Let’s get tough with the ‘old man’

The Apostle Paul talks about the need to “put off the old man” so we can “put on the new man. ” He says, “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him” ( Colossians 3:9, 10 ).

A touch of the Christ

I love the Christian Science periodicals! In fact, I take them with me wherever I go and read them at every opportunity—on the bus, the train, or standing in line—and they continually inspire me. I had the Christian Science Sentinel with me recently, and that day there were ample opportunities to read.

Trusting God: a childhood healing

Christian Science opens to us the door to understanding verse 27 in the first chapter of Genesis: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. ” It explains that man is God’s idea—the spiritual image, or reflection, of God, Spirit.

Our source of strength and supply

When I was still working , past retirement age, as a real estate agent, I had an opportunity to represent a client in the purchase of a condominium. The condo had been rented for many years by a very large family, and the family evidently had not been very good housekeepers.

A Reading Room attendant’s prayer for the Monitor

When she arrived at the Reading Room in the mornings, our copies of the Monitor were often missing, though she was assured by our delivery service that they had been delivered to our doorstep.

Where is the Church we embrace?

How can we take a prayerful approach to considering where we truly find Church? We can start with the Bible. Christ Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” ( Matthew 18:20 ), and also, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” ( John 12:32 ).

Good Samaritan qualities and our Reading Room

Many years ago , I was a member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, whose membership had a deep desire to better serve our community and share our love of spiritual healing with others. We agreed to have a series of inspirational meetings on this topic where members could share ideas gleaned from their individual study and prayer.

The healing lens of humility

Christ Jesus demonstrated that putting God first in daily life takes humility and an unselfed love. Before he was taken by the soldiers and tried, and with the crucifixion in his future, he yielded his human desire to God, and humbly prayed, “Thy will be done” ( Matthew 26:42 ).

The Christ-light is inextinguishable!

The first time I read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, I found it contained an explanation of the Christ that made a great deal of sense to me. The author, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us, “Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness” (p.
