Recently I had the opportunity to talk with a group of Christian Scientists who were about to graduate from college. During our conversation one of the questions asked was, “What helped you stay committed to Christian Science?” I found myself sharing that the one thing that had been a great support in keeping me connected to Science was my commitment to attending Wednesday evening testimony meetings. Since that afternoon I have thought more about the correlation between my attendance at these meetings and my growth as a Christian Scientist. I have seen more and more evidence of a clear link between the two.
This weekly proof of the power of the Christ in our lives has been invaluable to me.
When I first graduated from college, I moved to the Chicago area to teach at a small private school. One of my friends who was teaching there, also a Christian Scientist, stopped me within our first week or two on campus and asked, “Will you commit to going to testimony meetings with me so that we can make sure we both go?” Without hesitating I said, “Yes.” It seemed like the right thing to do, but I hadn’t given it too much thought prior to her bringing it up. What I didn’t realize was how much this commitment would bless me.
