When our first baby was born, the doctor said something was wrong with her, and he would have to operate the next morning. I asked my husband to phone the Christian Science practitioner who had been supporting me through the pregnancy and the birth, and let her know something wasn’t right with our baby. The practitioner said she would be glad to continue supporting us with treatment through prayer.
I kept holding to the truth that as a child of God, our daughter was perfect and complete. I knew that nothing could invade that perfection, since God’s law is always in charge, governing His entire creation harmoniously. I went to sleep still seeing our daughter’s complete perfection, and rejoicing that I knew it. Meanwhile, my husband was also claiming that our little one was God’s child, the spiritual reflection of her Father-Mother God, perfect in every way.
The next morning the doctor came into my room with his face beaming and said he would not have to operate after all. He explained that the day before, he and three other doctors had examined our baby and found water on the brain, and they had expected to operate that morning. But on examining her again, they could find no evidence of the problem. The doctor knew we were Christian Scientists, and he himself was a regular reader of The Christian Science Monitor. He gave Christian Science the credit for the healing.
