Thoughts of a Reader

Dear Father-Mother God, let me Know this is Your Word, Your message— these books, these Lessons, this Sermon. The Lesson-Sermon is published in the Christian Science Quarterly.

Positioning Joseph

Selected, sold out of his land: "Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron. He was celled with king's personnel.

It will come

Wisdom comes to an honest heart like the crowning bloom on an eager bud. O earnest one—keep on! Each stumble brings a stronger stride, each pang a purer sight.

Patience

Patience isn't Mourning in the dark, Waiting for light. It is joy in every moment: Constant consciousness of right.

When all is said and done

When looking back on a moment ago or years gone by— The words let out, the thoughts that ruled, the patterns spun— What will fill the heart with peace, and satisfy? The merciful, who love and live to sanctify Earth's varied scenes, will have a bliss outshined by none, When looking back on a moment ago or years gone by. The pure in heart, intently true, can prophesy In the solid now and through their lives show everyone What will fill the heart with peace, and satisfy.

To whom much is forgiven

"Wherefore I say unto thee, her sins, which are many are forgiven; for she loved much. " —Jesus Following our Master's way I do not pin the past on you I do not hold it over you it has already slipped from sight a dream that never was for you love much love the joy that Soul bestows love the purer light of Spirit love the good you find in loving more unselfishly I see you as you always were an honored child I do this happily for you dear friend as it was done for me.

Missile on target*

Sword and spear and shield will not do it. Sharp surfaces of will and hate cannot deliver up the giant.

ASPIRATIONS

Gazing at a bright, commanding peak, we are not there yet, but the heart is drawn — we're drawn to walk, to climb, to reach, discovering with each needed step the fullness of good here now .

Moral courage

When the banner of Christ needs upholding, and yet you don't want to; When something lures "just this once," and you can't figure out why not; When strength and steadfastness are the only course, and yet you're uncertain you can hang on; These are the moments/years to call on your Saviour, that helper beyond the human mind. Christ tells you that you are chosen, and can choose none other Than the reality of the God you love.

DESERT TREE

Its bark was soft As baby's skin, A touch of velvet Smooth and green. Not scarred or burnt By desert heat Nor forced into A charred defeat But new and fresh And strengthened too By howling winds And sands that blew.
