FAITHFULNESS

On the mountain, in the valley, in the tempest on the sea, In the temple, by the wayside, on the shores of Galilee, Spake the Master words of comfort to poor sick humanity: Come to me in faith, believing, and the truth will make you free. Have we not discerned the import of his mighty word and work? Are we groping still in error where the claims of evil lurk? Have we failed to grasp the meaning of the Saviour's loving call: Come ye weary ones, and thirsty, to the waters, free for all? Then, no longer need we linger in the shades of doubt and fear, For the loving Saviour's message has been made so wondrous clear That the foolish ones; and simple, may not fail to understand How the lame and the impotent leaped and walked at his command.

CHRISTMAS PEACE

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. "— Luke 2:14.

GUIDANCE

Because I would forget, dear Lord, Those things which are behind, The sins and fears, the griefs and greeds, The thoughts untoward, unkind, I would before my wandering eyes Thy laws as frontlets bind. Then would I bide, nor fear the ills Which evil's cohorts plot; While in my heart Thy words are shrined, No soil of sin shall blot Or mar the tablet of my soul, The doorposts of my thought.

"THY WILL BE DONE"

With reverence, humility, and love I pray, "Thy will be done. " Great peace comes with the words to-day; Peace, joy, and thankful recollection of the hour When faith in God replaced belief in human power; When absolute surrender of self-will Was followed by Love's benediction, "Peace, be still.

TO BETHLEHEM

O Bethlehem ! O Bethlehem! What thoughts of thee arise, Of shepherds on the hills at night, Of Wisemen guided by the light That shone from starry skies. O Bethlehem! O Bethlehem! How sweetly sounds the name! We lisped it in our cradle days, And now with many a song of praise, We journey there again.

TRAVELING

When from the common task we seek The surcease promised to the meek, No need have we of travel lines That lead through paths of earth's confines. The wingèd thoughts of Truth and Love, More surely than the homing dove Doth find its way to sheltering nest, Transport us to man's conscious rest.

IT IS DONE

Elisha , sought out by the Syrian king, Pressed by hosts which encompassed the city, Sought not by his own power salvation to gain; He feared not; but knew that the Lord would restrain The hosts which encompassed the city. My master, my master, ah! how shall we do? How flee from the hosts which surround us? Then calmly he answered; Fear not, thou shalt see The hosts of God's army, far greater they be Than those of the enemy round us.

"BRING THEM HITHER TO ME"

Dear Lord, to-morrow there will come to me A class of little ones, in Sunday school; And thou hast told me, "Give ye them to eat. " But I have searched my store and only found Within its room some little grains of truth; And what are they, dear Lord, that I may feed Those eager hearts all hungry for God's Word? Clear comes the Master's voice, "Bring them.

SUPPLY

A few small fishes and some loaves Our Lord once multiplied, To feed five thousand men; nay more, Twelve baskets full, beside! And thus he proved man's every need Abundantly supplied, When, strong in faith, we turn to God And in His law abide. But oh! man may not imitate This mighty feat of Mind, Until he learns that Love divine Is feeding all mankind! Then opulence beyond our dreams We'll find man's heritage, Outlasting years and centuries, Untouched by lack or age.

COMPASSION

"When he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion. " — Matthew 9:36.
