Testimonies of Healing
One day this past winter, as I was about to go to work, I slipped and fell backward on the icy driveway, my elbow hitting the ground first. I heard a loud cracking sound and felt a sharp pain, and it appeared that something was broken.
My understanding and demonstration of Christian Science have slowly grown and expanded over the years. Through much prayer and many experiences of healing, I have come to trust God with my daily life and with every bit of my existence.
One day last year, I noticed my throat becoming sore. I turned to prayer, but the soreness seemed to increase over the course of the day.
As a student of Christian Science I have had the opportunity to witness many healings for others as well as for myself. Praying with the many resources for studying and practicing Christian Science—including the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy, the Christian Science Sentinel , The Christian Science Journal , The Christian Science Monitor, and the Christian Science Hymnal— I have been healed of bone deterioration, periodontal disease, and hypothyroidism (see “ Hypothyroidism healed ,” Sentinel, December 3, 2012).
When my husband and I had been married for about three years, I became pregnant. Even though we were open to having children, I felt overwhelmed by fear and panic when I discovered I was expecting.
For many years, I struggled with painful and irregular periods. I was medically diagnosed with a condition called PCOS and took medicine for a few years, but could not get relief.
One Sunday afternoon as I was playfully tossing my daughter into the air, I felt a ripping sensation in my shoulder. I thought nothing of it and continued to play with her.
The Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, speaks often about praying with the idea of “reversal. ” In many instances, I have found this to be a helpful idea to guide my prayer.
It was moving day at our home, and boxes were stacked everywhere, ready for loading on the truck. As I walked through the doorway with a large box in my arms, the corner of the box knocked over a shelf that was propped against the wall near the doorjamb.
During an alumni rugby game at the college I attend, I missed a tackle and another player accidentally rolled over my ankle and injured it. Immediately, I began to pray and started by mentally declaring truths I have learned in Christian Science about my spiritual identity.
