Testimonies of Healing
Autumn in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California is a season of preparation—of getting ready for the upcoming blanketing snows and storing up supplies to get through the cold months with their shorter days of sunlight. One day, after working all day cutting, splitting, and moving large timber for firewood, a 50-pound chunk of wood I was moving out of a trailer fell about five feet directly onto the little finger of my left hand.
A healing experience I recently had brought to mind an especially interesting passage in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It reads, “Until the advancing age admits the efficacy and supremacy of Mind, it is better for Christian Scientists to leave surgery and the adjustment of broken bones and dislocations to the fingers of a surgeon, while the mental healer confines himself chiefly to mental reconstruction and to the prevention of inflammation” ( p.
Our toddler son and I were at a party with friends from our church. The kids were playing on various rented inflatable play structures, bouncing and sliding and giggling.
Several years ago, I began experiencing signs of heart trouble. Since I’d grown up with Christian Science and had continued studying it as an adult, I was familiar with the idea that God is Life and that man is the spiritual expression of Life.
I am deeply grateful for how Christian Science healed me of a sudden throat problem a few months ago. As I arrived at my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, on a Wednesday night to serve as First Reader, there was a strange burning sensation in my throat.
My mother was raised in Christian Science, and I attended a Christian Science Sunday School during my childhood years. But I didn’t “make it my own” until I was a young adult.
I was badly hurt when I was hit by a forklift in an accident at the manufacturing plant where I work. Before I was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment, the on-site doctor examined me.
I’ve loved this scriptural statement tucked into First Samuel: “The soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the Lord thy God” ( 25:29 ). One translation of this verse is: “The Lord your God will keep you safe, as someone guards a precious treasure” (Good News Translation).
One day while working in my garden, I fell backwards. Though I landed hard, I comfortably got up, seemingly uninjured.
I am deeply grateful to God for a physical healing that came very quickly and decisively through prayer in Christian Science. On a Sunday morning last year, I awoke with pain and stiffness in my neck.
