Day of Salvation

From the May 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Behold, now is the accepted time;
Behold, now is the day of salvation.

2 Corinthians vi. 2.

Few texts are so persistently misunderstood as this. One might suppose the words to be clear enough—"now is the accepted salvation-time;" yet Christians very commonly insist that the text means this, that now is the proper time, not for being saved, but for getting ready to be saved hereafter, in Heaven. What the words of Paul clearly mean is this, that now is the time, not for preparation, but for salvation itself. Salvation is in character, in deeds and words, and now is the time to achieve it.
