"AND the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy. which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
Thus to the shepherds of Judaea the appearing of the Prince of Peace was announced, of whom Isaiah prophesied,
"Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end." The almost daily slaughter of thousands in the war now raging in the East is, however, a sad commentary upon humanity's oft-proclaimed desire for the establishment of this government of the Christ; and the incongruity of the situation, the cruelty and wrong of it, should be apparent to every Christian, and more especially should this be so at Christmas-tide, when peace and good will are supposed to dominate the hearts and control the actions of men.
