Testimonies of Healing

As I read the Sentinel and ponder the sweet messages...

From the May 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As I read the Sentinel AND ponder the sweet messages of truth that it brings us from all parts of the globe, I feel more thankful than ever for Christian Science, and to our dear Leader for her tireless work for us.

I had been reared a sickly child and cannot remember when I did not have one or more ailments,— hereditary throat trouble, liver complaint, and chronic constipation. At the age of twenty-one I was what the doctors pronounced a physical wreck. Then it was that we began to strive for some way out of the terrible suffering which I was undergoing day after day. The very best doctors in two different states were of no avail. I was then sent to a hospital where I underwent a surgical operation. This left me in a worse condition than before, the ether leaving me with a poisoned stomach, the mucous membrane of stomach and bowels sloughing off. Then I had to be put on a diet of malted milk, etc., and I gradually became so weak I could no longer sit in my chair. When we called a new doctor he would try to help me, but would soon say there was nothing to build on, that I had no vitality. I was indeed homesick for heaven,— there was no material structure to hold me back from seeking to know more about God.

My case became more and more complicated, and still more earnestly I prayed to be delivered. I thought over the Scriptures, as I had all my life been an earnest Bible student. I united with an orthodox church at the age of sixteen, taught in the Sunday School, and never tired of the work, thinking always that I must serve God up to my best understanding, but in that awful darkness had He forsaken His child?
