I do not think I could show my gratitude for the efficacy...

From the May 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I do not think I could show my gratitude for the efficacy of Christian Science in any better way than by adding one more testimony to the many that have been given heretofore. About two years ago I was laid up with what the doctors pronounced Bright 's disease and valvular heart trouble. Although at that time I knew nothing whatever of Christian Science, yet I had many dear friends who often spoke to me of the great benefits which they had received from it. I cannot do otherwise than declare that my healing was brought about by the "Spirit of truth" working within me. After being in the hospital for about three months, I recovered sufficiently to return to my business, and although the doctors declared that the disease was chronic and would reappear at some future time, I have as yet experienced no return of the trouble, but, on the contrary, am enjoying better health than I have for the past ten years.

Soon after leaving the hospital I attended a Wednesday evening meeting at First Church of Christ, Scientist, in this city, and what I saw and heard there made me anxious to look deeply into this subject, feeling that there was no reason why I could not participate in the happiness, and be a recipient of the many blessings those with whom I came in contact there seemed to be enjoying. In order to attain this end, I determined to put off the old man and start life anew, and rely implicitly on divine Love to help me along in my new course.

My next step in the right direction was to become a member of First Church of Christ. Scientist; after a while I received class instruction, and later on became a member of the Mother Church in Boston. I soon began to gain some understanding of the great truths of Christian Science, and felt more real contentment and happiness, and enjoyed better health than I ever realized it was possible for a man to have in this world.
