From the December 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I had suffered for eight years from a complication of uterine and other troubles. I was in constant pain; could not lie down without great discomfort, and as I was unable to use opiates, many times I sat up until almost morning and then from exhaustion fell asleep. I had many physicians,—the best in this and other cities,—and was finally told that there was nothing left for me to try except surgery. The operation proposed was of such a serious nature, however, that I was at no time considered in a condition to undergo it. I had great fear of the operation, and gave it up,—the physician feeling that I had only a short time to live. Ten months after having made this decision (during which time I continued to grow worse), I was induced to try Christian Science. I was very skeptical, but after the first treatment I felt convinced that it was the truth. It gave me the first feeling of hope I had experienced since my illness began. The love manifested by the practitioner, and the meek yet positive assurance that I could be freed from the bondage of disease, gave me courage and a sense of peace. At the end of one week I was completely healed; the pain had entirely left and I felt indeed lifted into a new sense of existence. In three months I gained forty pounds in weight. This was four years ago and I have enjoyed perfect health ever since. I am truly grateful for the physical healing, but am more thankful than I can say for the spiritual help I have had, in this practical understanding of God and man's relation to Him. Christian Science is indeed the pearl of great price; it brings to mortals the peace that passeth understanding. I am truly thankful to Mrs. Eddy for her wonderful work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

As I grow in understanding, by striving to live up to the demands of Christian Science, I more deeply appreciate our Leader's unique place in the history of the world, as she points the way out of the bondage of sense into the freedom of Soul.—
