[Our beloved Leader's interest and influence in the work for international peace is recognized in the following letters. — Editor.]
New York, N. Y., Aug. 12, 1907.
Beloved Leader:— Being the only Christian Scientist (so far as is known) who is at the present time a member of the Universal Peace Union of Philadelphia, I have been commissioned by its President, Mr. Alfred H. Love, to deliver or transmit to you the enclosed letter, containing a cordial invitation from him to you to attend the forty-first anniversary of this organization, to be celebrated at Mystic, Conn., Aug. 22 to 25 inclusive, and also opening to you the columns of the peace organ, the Peacemaker and Court of Arbitration, published in Philadelphia, of which President Love is editor-in-chief. The general subject for the Sunday afternoon session will be "Religion and Peace," as you will see by the enclosed program, at which addresses will be made by well known ministers and prominent peace-workers, including Dr. W. Evans Darby, secretary of the London Peace Society. It is the earnest desire of President Love that you send a message to be read at this meeting, as I assured him we could scarcely hope for your presence on this occasion.
