"God never failed me yet!" she said, and peace
Shone from the aged eyes undimmed and clear.
Widowed, with nine young appetites to feed,
I knew she sought His aid in every need
And supplemented prayer with doughty deed.
Respected and beloved, her whole career
Daily declared, "God never failed me yet!"
She left no dower of gold or lands to me
When the brave feet fared forth by unseen ways;
But her rich legacy of trust and cheer
Grows greater with the passing of each year.
And I, who listen with the heart, can hear
The memory music of that perfect praise,
"God never failed me yet!"
