Christian Science was first recommended to me in 1897. for my daughter, who was bed fast with lung trouble. After seven weeks' treatment she was healed. While she was being healed I became interested m Christian Science by the perusal of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Out of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, I would like to enumerate some of the manifest blessings that have been mine, in the hope that this may help others as the testimonies published in our periodicals have benefited me. First, distressing headaches, of years' standing, have been overcome. I had these attacks from the time I was a mere child, but they were met after I had been reading Science and Health three days. One severe attack came after I had been five months in Christian Science, but it was overcome by Truth, and three months later I had a slight attack, which was also mastered by the understanding of divine Principle. This was the last appearance of that error, for Truth accomplished the complete cure. I was free! In addition to the headaches, I had catarrhal trouble in a severe form, besides stomach, kidney, and bladder trouble, etc I had worn a support for nine years, but it was discarded immediately after I became interested in Christian Science, as I had no further need of it.
The most wonderful healing was with my eyes They were affected from the time I was a small child and continued to grow worse until at the age of fourteen years I had to give up my schooling. I was placed under the care of a specialist, and after spending thirty years in treatment by one doctor, then another, I was still no better I wore heavy ground glasses, smoked glasses when going out, was entirely blind in the right eye, and could not distinguish a man from a woman across the street. During this period there were six years that I could not read a word, and wore a sunbonnet drawn down over my eyes from the time I arose till I retired at night. At last a specialist told me that my case was hopeless, that nothing could save my sight.
In this condition Christian Science found me, and after studying Science and Health for nine months I forgot to put on my glasses. I then found that I did not need them, and that I could see better at a distance with my right eye than I could with the left one. Now I do any kind of close work, and read without glasses, not having had them on since I laid them aside ten years ago. All these chronic diseases were gradually overcome by the reading and study of Science and Health. In an acute attack of lung trouble, however, it seemed wiser to seek the help of an experienced Christian Scientist (see Science and Health, p. 420), and Truth was again the victor. I have gained greatly in weight since my healing in Christian Science. Last but not least was the destruction of the liquor habit in the case of my husband. He had been an habitual drunkard for years, and was not only a physical wreck but mentally affected, to say nothing of the curse to the home and the poverty too; but all these conditions were overcome by Christian Science, though it was a long, tedious battle.
