Testimonies of Healing

From the December 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for the great blessings which I have received through Christian Science and its teaching. For about ten years I was a constant, and I might add a hopeless sufferer, because the many physicians whom I consulted could not locate the seat of the disease. Finally it was said that I had gallstone, with all its evil accompaniments. As an operation was deemed inadvisable, on account of my weakened condition, I could never hope for healing, but could only be temporarily relieved of the pain by hypodermic injections. My physician tried his best, and I shall always be grateful to him for it, yet I must confess that this outlook made me very unhappy. I sometimes almost doubted the kindness and the all-power of God.

Then my savior from distress appeared. I heard of Christian Science and its wonderful healing of the hopelessly sick. I was ready to try it, and the first treatment gave me sufficient proof that I had found the one great truth which alone makes free. I soon knew as never before that God is ever present, and that there is no other power or presence, no other Life. I shall never forget the day when the Principle of the Christ-Science was made clear to me, never shall I forget the feeling of unspeakable joy that filled my heart when I knew that Truth could overcome all trouble or suffering, no matter what it may be called, if I would but rely upon divine Mind, who is revealing and proving to us that the real man is not subject to disease. With the understanding of this Mind all sin and its accompaniments can be destroyed.

After thirteen days' treatment I was dismissed as healed. In the ten years that have passed since that time I have never had the slightest return of the disease. I am entirely well and strong and glad in the assurance that God who is our Life, the only Truth and Love, will help us to overcome all evil if we really trust Him above all else, and are daily striving to keep His commandments.
