THE READERS OF THE MOTHER CHURCH

As announced at the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, the Readers elected for the ensuing term of three years are:—

First Reader, Judge Clifford P. Smith, LL.B., C.S.B.

Second Reader, Mrs. Carol Hoyt Powers.

Judge Smith was at the time of his election a judge of the District Court of Iowa. He was born in Indiana in 1869. He graduated from the law school of the State University of Iowa in 1891; practised law from 1891 to 1899 in Kalispell, Mont., Sioux City, la., and Mason City, la., and has been judge of the District Court of Iowa from January, 1900, to the present time. He was appointed to fill a vacancy in this court in December, 1899, was elected and reelected in 1902 and 1906 for four-year terms. The District Court of Iowa corresponds to the Superior Court of Massachusetts. Judge Smith has been a student of Christian Science since 1896, and a member of The Mother Church since 1902. He was for a time First Reader in First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Mason City, la. He is a primary student of the Board of Education of The Mother Church, and one of the authors of "Christian Science and Legislation."

Mrs. Powers is a well-known public reader and teacher of reading. She was born in Boston and received her education in that city. She is the wife of Leland T. Powers, and resides in Brookline. Mrs. Powers joined The Mother Church in 1901.
