WHEN LOVE LOOKS DOWN

From the July 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Love looks down from starlit skies,
New joys appear and hope grows strong;
The heart with tenderer speech replies
And mightier themes pervade our song.
Indeed, how blest the chosen way
When Christ is near the livelong day.

Did ever moment pass when God
Withheld His glance of love from thee?
Perchance for once ye had not trod
The paths of sweet humility—
The paths that Christ through shadows dim
Made straight for those who followed him.

When wrongs we feel, 'tis well to know
Each error word begets a frown,
While words of Truth are gems that glow
As do the stars when Love looks down.
Live, then, and let thy light so shine
That God's own will is done, not thine.
