Testimonies of Healing

From the July 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am reminded of my many blessings since I took up the study of Christian Science, about eight years ago, and the impression I received the first time I attended the Christian Science church, as the joy and peace that radiated from the faces of that congregation showed me they had hold of a satisfying good that I wanted. I did not take up the study of the subject for physical healing, yet I was soon healed of a trouble from which I had suffered for over ten years, just by the study of the Bible and Science and Health. A lifelong bowel trouble was also removed in the same manner. Christian Science healed me later of a severe lung trouble that some of my friends felt to be very alarming.

I am also reminded of a recovery from an accident to my eye some years ago, when a piece of metal became imbedded in the eyeball. I went to a prominent surgeon whom I knew, and he made several efforts to remove the metal, but without any success. He said that he was afraid to probe any deeper, and would take me to an eye specialist, the best in Boston. This doctor removed the object, and was much puzzled by the absence of pain during the operation, seeming to fear that sensation had left the eye, and making several tests that showed his fear; but I assured him I was all right. A prescription for a lotion was given me, the doctor stating that this must be applied at frequent intervals, besides bathing the eye, and that he must see me the next morning. It was then late in the afternoon, and I agreed to call him by telephone the next day. I went to my home, and with the help of my wife worked out the problem by the application of Christian Science only, no material remedy or bathing being used. I was at my office as usual the next day, and called the doctor by telephone as appointed, stating that I was healed. He insisted that I must come to his office and let him make an examination, but I did not do so.

Christian Science is helping me to solve all my problems, and has met our every need. No medicine has been used in our home for over eight years, and for a family of five this means a great deal. I am very grateful for the privilege of being an usher in The Mother Church at Boston, thereby being of some service to our Cause. Words cannot express my gratitude to God for the good that has come to me through Mrs. Eddy's pure life and her discovery of Christian Science.—
