Testimonies of Healing

From the September 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I would like to tell of my healing, with the deepest gratitude for the blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. In November, 1907. while alone in a foreign country where I had a position, I became extremely ill. and was taken against my will to a hospital. The physicians there believed that I would not recover. In spite of their apprehensions, however, I came out of this disease, but a trouble with my legs set in, and all the medical means, which were used against my will, brought me no relief. Three months later I left the hospital, suffering pain continually, so that the least movement would cause distress, and it was only with the greatest effort that I could walk at all. Even at night a slight movement would cause such pain as to awaken me.

I already knew of Christian Science, as a few years before I had been healed of a nervous trouble through die help of a Christian Science practitioner, Being at this time far away from home, I sought for comfort in Der Herald as often as I could, hoping thereby to get well; my understanding, however, was not sufficient, and therefore I did not succeed. When I returned to Dresden in May, 1908, my sister, who has been acquainted with Christian Science for several years, came to see me and was very much surprised to find me in such a pitiable condition. She advised me to apply to a practitioner for help as soon as possible, which I did immediately. After the first few days in which the truth was declared for me, I could say to the dear helper that her work was having a salutary influence. I had improved from the first, and in a short time I was free of the distressing trouble. At Pentecost I made a trip to the home of my parents, and also met there my brother, who had seen me a few weeks before in Dresden in a helpless condition and had told my parents how much I endured. My parents and my brother could hardly realize that I had been freed so quickly of this lingering disease, as I came to their home well and happy and was delighted to take long walking-tours without any discomfort or pain. I have felt well and cheerful ever since, and take more interest in everything than I used to.

For these benefits I thank God, and I am grateful to the revered Founder of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy. I am glad that through divine grace I have become acquainted with Christian Science, and that I enjoy so great blessings spiritually and physically. I hope to gain constantly a deeper understanding of the truth, and also wish that many of my fellow-beings may know of Christian Science and be blessed thereby.— .
