Testimonies of Healing

From the January 1910 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Believing it a duty which I owe to God because of His infinite goodness extended to me in a time of great need, I send this testimonial, with the prayer that it may reach many who are seeking a Saviour as was I. but who are groping in darkness for the truth that makes men free.

Four years ago, at Thanksgiving time, I was completing a seven-months course of treatment in a leading San Francisco hospital. T had been afflicted with what seemed a multitude of ailments for several years, chief of which were rheumatism, stomach, bowel, heart, and kidney trouble, besides sleeplessness, fainting-spells, the tobacco habit, with other forms of gross indulgence, and a bad temper. Then, as a result of wrong-doing. I was injured in a street railway accident so severely that I remained in a comatose condition for days thereafter, suffering untold agony and fearing death.

Four prominent physicians and surgeons had done all they could to relieve my suffering and to heal me of my ills, but I was at last given up to die or. what seemed worse, to live a life of helpless invalidism; so I left the institution on the 28th day of November, 1905, to go I knew not where, as I did not wish my eastern friends and relatives to learn of my condition. Besides the afflictions enumerated. I was separated from my family in consequence of the deplorable state into which I had fallen, and it seemed to me almost that there was no hope, no God, for I had prayed earnestly and frequently to be delivered from the bondage of sin and sickness into which I had been constantly and at times unconsciously drifting for a number of years.
