I was led to Christian Science through a lady with whom I was acquainted, and heard of this wonderful truth for the first time in a Wednesday evening meeting. I took great interest in it and asked a kind neighbor a few questions. The answer was. "I will give you something to read;" and so I became acquainted with Der Herold der Christian Science. At the age of thirty I had been paralyzed for sixteen weeks as the result of a mistaken medical treatment, and drugs had always seemed to aggravate my condition. I now attended the Christian Science church regularly, and gave my leisure to the reading of the Herold. I soon became more active mentally and was wrapped up in what I heard and read. Tn Christian Science I found the Way-shower, the Comforter that reveals God to mankind as ever-present Love and Truth, the redeemer from all error; who bestows upon us health, peace, happiness, and all good.
A short time after I began this study. I fell while attempting to enter an omnibus, and severely injured my knee. The pain was very great, and I had no control over the leg; besides this my head had been injured. Being alone, I wondered how I could get home, and for a few moments I was unable to think; then I remembered the teachings of Christian Science, and saw that this was error: that nothing evil could come from God, good: with the result that I was freed from the pain in my head and knee—I was well! I could stand and walk, and was not only well physically but was filled with a feeling of peace and unspeakable bliss! I silently thanked God for this infinite blessing of Truth understood.
One day, while I was reading the Herold, the glasses which I had been wearing for fifteen years fell off, and my decision to reject this material means was quick. I applied to a Scientist for help, and during the treatment I experienced an unshakable trust in God. and realized that all-embracing Love alone knew these thoughts. When I started to go home I found everything clearer: it seemed as if all had been cleansed! I was filled with surprise, and sought in vain for words of thanks. On the way home I not only could distinguish people across the street, but I could plainly make out their features, which I had not been able to do before: and after a few more treatments I began to translate Science and Health for myself with the help of a dictionary. I can now see objects at a distance as well as those near by.
