Christian Science has brought me so many blessings that I wish to express my gratitude by relating my experience to the larger field which the periodicals feed. In September. 1903, I went to see a Christian Science practitioner to ascertain whether there was any help for me, as I had been suffering for nearly ten years from an abdominal disease which, although I had been under medical treatment during the whole of that period, had not yielded, but steadily grew worse, until I was reduced to such a state of fear by terrible spasms of pain, which came more and more frequently, that I sought forgetfulness in any kind of excitement.
The truth of Christian Science came like a flash of light to my darkened consciousness, and I saw that God, being good only, could not be the source of any evil to man, and that by obtaining more understanding of His perfect law I should be made free. Many sinful habits left me at once, never to return. The craving for tobacco, to which I was a slave, disappeared in three weeks after treatment, through a sincere desire to cease the worship of all false gods. I put off the glasses which I had worn continuously, and my sight has steadily improved. The abdominal disease yielded slowly, there being apparently no relief from pain during the first twelve months, but on a clearer perception of my true need, namely, spiritual understanding, that also disappeared into its native nothingness.
These blessings are great, and for them I am truly thankful; but I am more thankful that through Christian Science I now have some knowledge of Him whom to know aright is life eternal, and that this knowledge is enabling me to strive so to live that I may be the bearer to cithers of the truth which makes free.
