Testimonies of Healing

I should like to tell a little of what Christian Science...

From the September 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I Should like to tell a little of what Christian Science has done for me, as I have received a great deal of help from the testimonies in the periodicals. In May, 1900, I received my first treatment in Christian Science. I never shall forget the day when two kind Scientists came to see me at my husband's request, one of them having given him some literature to read to me some months before. At that time I was lying in bed, too weak to read or even to hold a book in my hands. I had been lying there more than a year, and had to be carried wherever they wanted to put me, like a child. I had no interest in anything, not even to know the day of the week, most of the time. My children had to be sent away from home, except the baby, who had to be kept as far away from me as possible, as I could not bear the least noise. I never could tell all I endured, and happily it all seems like a dream to me now. I had five doctors, who did all in their power to help me. One of them attended me about a year, and he told me at last that it was of no use for me to take any more drugs or "foods,"' and that he could do no more. They then sent for my mother, thinking I could not live long, and while she was with me I began to improve a little, but she had to go back to her home, and I seemed to lose all hope and knew that God must heal me if I was to get well.

I then requested my husband to tell the lady who gave him the Sentinels that I wanted to try Christian Science. I had never heard of it before, but understood that they healed by prayer. When she told me that God never made me sick, and that He would heal me, I believed it. The peace, joy, and happiness that came to me seemed to lift me out of all discord; slowly at first, as I was a mental and physical wreck, but the kind practitioner worked with much patience, and told me that God was my strength. I walked into the dining-room one day, to the great surprise of the family, and after that I gained very fast. In seven weeks I went twenty-five miles to Boston, and took the boat for Nova Scotia to visit my mother. I walked all that was necessary, and it seemed very wonderful to me, as it had been fifteen months since I had walked any.

Since that time I have relied upon Truth for overcoming all the ills that have come up, for my little girl and myself. To say that I am most thankful to God, also to Mrs. Eddy for the many blessings which have come to me, is not saying enough. The half can never be told! It seems as though I never lived until I knew of Christian Science, and I am truly grateful for all the help I have received in every way.—
