The time has come when I am so filled with the realization of what God has done for me that I must acknowledge my help. Before I learned of this truth, I find that most of my memories are associated with illness from childhood. I was almost constantly under a physician's care, and at times was a great sufferer. I had lost all faith in doctors and medicine, and never expected to be well again, as I was informed by my physicians that I could live but a short time. Although I could not understand why I had to suffer, I never could believe that God sent suffering. I always longed for a better understanding of Him, and earnestly prayed that He would reveal Himself to me. I know now that divine Love was leading me all the way.
When Christian Science found me, I had been in the hospital three weeks under treatment for a complication of diseases, but grew worse instead of better. At last the doctor told my friends that he had done all he could do for me, and they decided to remove me from the hospital to my home and have Christian Science treatment, although they hardly expected me to live until they could get me there, for I was unconscious and remained so for four days. Although apparently in a dying condition when the practitioner came to me, hiccoughs of three weeks' duration were overcome in one treatment. I was also healed of partial paralysis of the brain, after the doctor had given me up, telling my friends there was no use to hope any longer; that I could never rally from the stroke, and if I did I would have another, which would end my life; but through the power of divine Love I was healed in a few hours after the physician left, also other alarming conditions were overcome. I awakened to consciousness the fourth morning, free from pain and distress for the first time in many months.
A few weeks after my first healing, I had a serious trouble with my stomach and bowels, so severe that it seemed I might pass suddenly away at any time from hemorrhage; but through faithful adherence to the truth this too was overcome. I was healed of spinal trouble with which I had been afflicted most of my life. A nervous disease which caused trouble with my eyes was also met; I was able to lay aside my glasses, and lung and organic heart trouble have disappeared through faith and prayer, as explained in our text-book. While under treatment an old affection of the ear made its appearance. A physician who examined it formerly said I must have an operation, as the bone was affected. An abscess formed and I suffered much pain, but the disease was entirely overcome through Christian Science treatment. During the healing some pieces of bone came out through the throat.
