It is over eight years since I was healed by Christian Science. I had been strong and healthy all of my life until about three years prior to that time, when I took a very hard cold and had a prolonged attack of throat and lung trouble, from which I did not fully recover until other ills manifested themselves. I also suffered a great deal from stomach, bowel, and liver trouble. I am a practitioner of dentistry, and at that time was alone in the office, but became so ill that my work seemed unbearable. I lost greatly in weight, could eat scarcely anything without distress, and was most miserable, mentally and physically. I put myself under the care of a thoroughly competent physician and followed his directions faithfully for several months. On his advice I took up athletic training, which I followed all of one winter and spring. Getting no better, the doctor advised me to give up the office for a while. I took a sea voyage to Honolulu, was away two months, and returned without any improvement whatsoever. The doctor made an examination and said I had a growth in my side. I grew worse and was soon confined to my bed. At my request the doctor brought two other able and experienced physicians and the three made an examination and held a consultation. As a result they told my wife that I had a malignant disease of the stomach and would probably not live longer than two or three weeks.
At this point, on the advice of my wife, I decided to try Christian Science, and wrote to my sister, who is a student of Christian Science and had had some experience as a practitioner. She came next day, Thursday, at four o'clock, and at half past six I got up and dressed and went downstairs. I ate such a dinner as I had not eaten for a good many months, and what is more, I suffered no bad effects from it whatever. The next Monday morning I went to my office and went to work, and for four years I did not lose a day from the office from inability to attend to business. I was not entirely healed at first, in fact it took me a long time to get entirely well, but the gain though slow was sure. With the kindest of practitioners (for I had several) I have been led out of darkness into light. I have had great help from class instruction, and have had the benefit of association meetings, which has meant a great deal to me.
The benefits I have had from Christian Science no tongue nor pen could tell. To be transformed from being a physical wreck, and lifted from a mental hell to health and harmony, is much to be thankful for, and all this and more I owe to God as revealed through Christian Science. Down in my heart there is also a deep love for the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy.
