It is with the deepest gratitude that I write to tell a little of what Christian Science has done for me. Over two years ago my little boy was born, and at the time of his birth I had Christian Science treatment. I had no doctor, only a Christian Science nurse, and I suffered very little. I was up and about in two days, and have had absolutely perfect health ever since.
With the child we have had wonderful demonstrations of the power of Truth. Twice, serious illness has tried to attack him, in one case taking the form of an abscess on the neck, when the baby was but a few months old. As I was only a beginner in Christian Science, and my husband, although slightly interested, had not then taken it up seriously, we were both very much frightened and discussed the advisability of sending for a doctor. I however felt that we ought to trust God, and we finally decided to wait till the next day. The next morning the swelling had gone down considerably and the baby had had a good night. No doctor was called or any material remedy used, and from that time the child recovered rapidly. He was soon quite himself again, and was not in the least pulled down by this illness, needing no tonic or change of air, as would most certainly have been the case in the old way. All the time, too, he was able to eat and sleep. About a year later, a severe attack of croup came on, but it was quickly met and overcome with the loving help of the same practitioner. Other ailments have several times been overcome in one treatment, and the little boy is a picture of health and happiness, with a most sweet and sunny disposition that is very responsive to the thought of love.
Grateful as I am for these proofs of the power of Christian Science in healing physical illness, I am still more so as I realize each day what it really means to a child to start from the very beginning with an understanding of the power of God,— that He is Love, and the only power, hence that every form of evil must vanish before divine Truth. I wish every mother could know of Christian Science, how it helps in the training of children and how it lessens the fear which is mistakenly supposed to be inseparable from love, and more especially a mother's love. I feel that the time will come when we shall know the "perfect love" which "casteth out fear," and for all that I have received and learned already, I am most grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who has again brought to light the healing religion of Christ Jesus.— Melita, Saltash, Cornwall, England.
