Testimonies of Healing

It is with the deepest gratitude...

From the December 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with the deepest gratitude that I offer my testimony respecting what Christian Science has done for me. It has healed me in sickness, it has brought light in the darkness of doubt and despair, it has solved financial problems for me, it has given me a clearer mental vision, and has taught me to be more charitable. In the case of discord in the home it has brought peace, and every member of my family has felt its healing influence. Through its teaching I am learning each day more of the great lessons of life in conquering self. I have learned that difficult lessons are beneficial, and through all I have felt the comforting assurance given in the words from Jeremiah: "Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee."

After coming to live in Chicago, I began to be afflicted with constant colds and throat trouble. This condition developed into a cough, and I became intensely nervous, although before this I did not believe it possible that I could be sick. Several specialists were consulted, and each claimed that I was afflicted with something in his own line. One or two said that if I remained in this climate I would have serious lung trouble; but Christian Science fully healed me after medical treatment and change of climate failed. I also was enabled to give up glasses, which I had worn for about seven years for reading and close work. When I first read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," its teaching seemed too ideal to be made practical, but after six years of constant use in many trying situations, I have come to regard it as "the living Christ, the practical Truth," of which Mrs. Eddy speaks on page 31 of Science and Health; and I know of nothing more practical and nothing more ideal.

The physical healing weighs but little, however, in comparison with the mental relief from anxiety and a sense of responsibility, and the spiritual joy which came in the revelation of the new heaven and the new earth founded upon divine Principle. I recall that a lecturer once said, "Mrs. Eddy has shown us the way, and it is our privilege humbly to follow." My gratitude to Mrs. Eddy is great indeed for showing me the way to spiritual understanding, to a Christianity which can be applied to the needs of daily living, and of which the healing and saving power can be proved.—
