I began the study of Christian Science in 1908, in what seemed to me the very darkest hours of my life. One night, I was trying to think of something to relieve the sufferings of a sister who seemed slowly passing away, and over whose case the physicians were puzzled. They indeed said they could do nothing more for her. The thought then came to me to ask her to try Christian Science. I reluctantly went to her and asked this, at the same time saying it would do her no harm if it did not help her. She agreed to try the treatment, and as there was a copy of Science and Health in the house which belonged to my mother, I got it and began to read, though it was all like Greek to me. I, however, thought that if it had helped others it would surely help her. She had absent treatment and received instant relief. Though her healing was slow she was continually gaining in wisdom and understanding.
When I began this reading to my sister, I thought that Christian Science was only a system of healing, and as I had no physical ill to be healed, it never occurred to me that I would be benefited thereby. It, however, soon interested me so much that I wanted to read day and night, devouring all the Christian Science literature that came my way. I soon saw that I must think very differently from what I had been accustomed to, and the result was that home has become more pleasant, dispositions are changed, in fact we have been regenerated. The spiritual uplifting has been grand.
I love to read the testimonies in the Sentinel and Journal. They have been a wonderful aid to me in climbing the rugged hillside from sense to Soul. I have thought of writing to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received in Christian Science, and I thank God with all my heart for His loving guidance and protection. I can best express my gratitude to God by living in obedience to His law, and I love Mrs. Eddy for her wonderful help to humanity.—Wynne Wood, Okla.
