I sometimes hesitate when asked how I became interested in Christian Science, if I stop to think of what this wonderful revelation of "God with us" has meant to me. After the first few conversations with a Christian Scientist, I knew this was the religion I wanted, and that this message of Truth was again bringing to the world the glad tidings of peace and good will; yes, peace and healing from fear, suffering, and poverty, which suggest to mankind the absence of God.
I took up the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, because it appealed to me as a religion and made me love the Bible and wish to understand it better. After reading about a month I found that I no longer needed glasses, to which I had been very closely confined for over five years, and several different oculists had said that I would have to wear them all my life, as I had defective vision. That was over twelve years ago, and I have never worn glasses or needed them since. I was deeply grateful for this proof of the healing power of the word of God, and since then have had abundant proof of Truth's healing and protecting power in every time of need. I am learning that our only need is to know God better and to live each day to glorify Him.
I felt very grateful recently, when I noticed that a weeping-sinew which had been on my wrist for some time, and which had at times occasioned a good deal of inconvenience, had entirely disappeared, also a swelling and irritation in the throat. I do rejoice for these reassuring words found in the Preface of Science and Health (p. xi), where Mrs. Eddy says: "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation."
