Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science means more to...

From the January 1914 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science means more to me than words can describe. It means health and strength in place of suffering and weakness. It means peace and happiness where once discord and unhappiness ruled. It also means contentment, patience, and courage. It means, above all, a better understanding of the Scriptures, out of which is growing a love for them. A little more than three years ago Christian Science found me in the depth of darkness and despair. I was without hope of any kind, and without God. Sickness and suffering, sorrow and misery, were the only things I knew. From infancy on I had been under doctors and medicine; at the age of twenty, operations began, and after undergoing four of these I became desperate, and vowed I would die rather than undergo the fifth, which the doctors said would be the most serious one, and which they claimed was necessary.

It was then that man's extremity proved to be God's opportunity, for Christian Science healed me. I am indeed grateful for the many blessings which have come and are daily coming to me from God, the giver of good and perfect gifts. Among the healings I experienced was that of severe heart trouble. The attacks had always filled me with great fear, so that I never wanted to be left alone, even for a short time. The healing was very slow, and many times I was tempted to give up. Each physical attack discouraged me, but each time I would rally, and like Paul the apostle I would "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Gradually the symptoms grew less, till the heart action became normal.

The first attack, which came in the night, was so severe and of such a nature that I know no physician could have reached me in time to help me; but I also know that God, who is ever near, was a very present help in this time of trouble, and I was rescued from the valley of the shadow. Other healings have taken place from such ills as severe headaches, stomach trouble, colds, etc.
