Testimonies of Healing

In reading an editorial in the February,...

From the October 1914 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In reading an editorial in the February, 1913, Journal, the question came to me, Why am I a Christian Scientist? Is it for what I can receive, or for what I can give? and am I blessing as I have been blessed? I have never before written my testimony, but I now wish to give expression to my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and my family,

While I was a regular church member I was an active worker, but it all seemed so inadequate to meet the need of suffering humanity. God was afar off. We believed He heard our prayers sometimes, but we could not believe that He would heal the sick, although He could the sinful. When Christian Science came to my notice through the healing of a dear friend, I became very much interested in it. It was not so much the physical healing as the spiritual uplift that interested me; it seemed so wonderful to think that the sick could be healed. I wanted to know how it was done, so I began to read Science and Health, and later I had class instruction. My one great desire was to help those in need of a God at hand, and not afar off, and I soon began to put into practice what I understood.

I had been a great sufferer from many ailments, among them spinal trouble, sciatic rheumatism, bowel disorder, and severe headaches; but I became so interested in the study of Christian Science that I forgot these ills, and when I thought of my back it was well. Later, all the other ills left, never to return. I was healed over twenty-five years ago, and now at the age of seventy-eight I am strong and well, without an ache or a pain. I have been working in Christian Science all these years, and I feel it a great privilege to be able to help suffering humanity.
