PROGRESS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

From the October 1914 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT was in the winter of 1888-89, that two or three persons in Marinette began to meet to study the Bible and Science and Health,—to learn something of what was then styled "a new religion." The number gradually increased, and the first of April a class in Christian Science Mind healing was taught by a loyal student of the Rev. Mary Baker Eddy. This began the work, and other classes followed, which added to the growth of the cause.

On April 21 of that same year, a church was organized with twenty one charter members. Almost immediately what was then termed a dispensary and reading-room was opened, giving an opportunity to the public to read the literature and to have Christian Science treatment if desired. At that time two rooms in the old Y. M. C. A. Building were occupied, but later on the services were held in private homes until with the good healing work done the attendance increased and the church was built. New strength and courage came with the following letter from the beloved Leader, written at Concord, June 12, 1890:—

My dear Grandchildren:— Your kind letter is full of the spirit of Christian Science. Accept my thanks.
