MANY years ago I had an illness from which I recovered, although I suffered from weak action of the heart and nervous debility, as was expected by the physicians. I had several attacks of weakness a day, and on account of this condition did not dare to go out or stay at home alone. I became despondent, discouraged, and dependent on others. I had treatment from a number of the most noted physicians, and also tried magnetic and electric baths. During a period of many months, massage was resorted to at intervals, but without lasting benefit. My greatest desire was to regain my former health and strength, but all the efforts of the physicians and the use of remedies proved unavailing, so that my family and myself gradually submitted to the thought of bearing what seemed to be inevitable.
In the mean time an affection of the skin set in, causing me most distressing pain. I now decided to seek refuge in Christian Science, which I had often heard spoken of, and went to see a practitioner. The pain disappeared with the first treatment, and the inflammation with the second. Soon after treatment was begun, I felt like another being. The world appeared to me in a new light, and God was revealed to me as infinite Love. A discharge from the middle ear, with which I had been afflicted for about nine months, disappeared very soon through treatment in Christian Science. While on the path leading to this blessed truth, it became clear to me that we must not expect to be benefited by material means, but must put our whole trust in God. Thus I gained the certainty that through divine Love I would be healed also of the heart affection and nervous trouble from which I had been a sufferer for ten years. This condition has yielded to such an extent as to enable me to manage my household affairs.
My whole family look upon this experience as a marvelous instance of healing. We are daily grateful for the knowledge of the omnipresence of God which we have gained, and for the understanding that the goodness of God not only manifests itself occasionally, but operates as an immutable law which is above time, place, and space. This has once more become very evident to us during our last summer trip, when our youngest daughter was laid up with a high fever, from which she recovered speedily through absent treatment. Two years ago, this child was also completely healed, after six or seven Christian Science treatments, of what is known as brain fever, and this was to us but another proof of the ceaseless activity of divine Mind. Finally, I would like to mention the fact that the reading of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and Der Herold der Christian Science, has contributed much toward increasing our understanding of things spiritual.— Berlin-Wilmersdorf, Germany.
