We learn in Christian Science that the universe is governed by the one Mind, God; but as this harmonious government is not yet completely manifest in human experience, it may be helpful to consider briefly some of the seeming hindrances to its immediate unfoldment, remembering all the time that these errors have no reality or power when once they are uncovered and destroyed by Truth.
Impatience, wilfulness, and selfish ambition might head the list of these marauders, and the sense of discord they engender can be silenced only by a sincere desire to know and do the will of God. Most frequently these unruly evils are in one's own consciousness, but sometimes they have their source in outside influences. Whether from without or within, however, these meddlesome tendencies of mortal mind should not be allowed to separate any one from the source of all goodness and wisdom; neither should they be allowed to disturb that unity and love among God's children which Jesus said was a mark of true discipleship.
The habit of moping and brooding over things which are past and gone, is also among these disturbers of the peace. Remorse for past mistakes, or resentment over wrongs endured, is often allowed to shadow the present and embitter hearts which should be filled with loving gratitude for blessings at hand. If one has made n mistake, he should do his best to correct it, and then forget the whole matter. If one has met with injustice, he can do his best to protect himself against its repetition, and forget it. We should guard against hoarding up unhappy experiences with which to torment ourselves.
