When my youngest child was seventeen months old, during the month of August she became very weak from what appeared to be a form of bowel disorder. One night she cried out so feebly once or twice, while apparently asleep, that I became alarmed, and taking her in my arms went down-stairs. The rest of the family were in bed, and there was no one to whom I felt I could apply for help, as we were living on a farm several miles from town and had no very near neighbors. I had depended on Christian Science for healing in sickness for some years, but that night I was filled with fear and trembling. There seemed nothing that I could do but "pour in truth through flood-tides of Love" (Science and Health, p. 201), and I read audibly from the Bible and Science and Health for about four hours; then I placed the baby back in her cot and left her sleeping, while I continued to read until daylight.
During the morning the child seemed very weak, but ready to take her food. I gave her bread and milk, feeling that the food which was good when she was well had not changed in quality when she was ill. I knew also that God, divine Love, is over all, "the same yesterday, and today, and forever," and that He would not leave a little child outside His protection. About noon she seemed to be very poorly, and I carried her outside. I had been reading some very helpful articles in the Journal and Sentinel, and although fear came again, I worked to realize the truth as intelligently as I knew how. In a few minutes the baby sat up, and presently slipped down from my knee and joined the other children playing near-by, and the next morning her bowels were perfectly normal.
I was filled with joy over this healing by the power of Truth alone, and my heart kept singing, "What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits?" and the thought came that my thankfulness must be shown by a corrected life. This is only one of the many times that Christian Science has healed sickness in our home. From my heart I thank God for giving us Mrs. Eddy, the one whose purity and goodness enabled her to understand His word and redeclare it to this age.—Garrington, Alberta, Canada.
